The film was dubbed and released in Telugu as Bombayaley (Bombay-the City). Produced by Sri Thenandalam Films and starring Radha in the lead role, it was Ratnam's second venture as a director. This film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. His first love interest, Sharada (Radha), is a medical student. The story is about a father who is suffering from old age and is so obsessed with his job that he has lost his love. He even sacrifices his wife (Sharada's mother) for his work. On the other hand, there is a young girl in Arvind's life, who is a medical student and is intensely in love with him.
